Lake Oswego Middle School is moving to Roost
Our new parent directory — private by design, and built for the years when the classroom stops being the center of things.
Getting in
Signing in
Sign in with the email address the school has on file, accept the terms, and confirm what you'd like shared. Most families are done in about a minute.
If you don't see your student
Enter your email and you'll be walked through a short request form — a LOMS directory admin will add your family, and you'll only ever need to do it once. This is most common in sixth grade, which is the one year with no prior middle school records to carry over, but it can happen in any grade if you're new to LOMS or your contact information has changed.
Moving up from another Lake Oswego school
If your student is coming from an elementary school that's already on Roost, you'll have an email asking you to confirm the move. Click the link in that email and your student appears at LOMS on the same account you already use — there's nothing else to do, and nothing to set up twice. If you can't find the email, request access above and an admin will sort it out.
Activity groups
Clubs — band, sports, drama, robotics, student council, grade-level committees — are being set up now. If a group you're part of isn't there yet, tell us and we'll add it.
Questions? Email the parent board at sailorparentclub@gmail.com and we'll get you sorted.
The year the classroom stops being the answer
In elementary school, the classroom is the community. One teacher, one room, the same twenty-odd families at drop-off every morning. You knew who your kid sat next to because you saw their mother in the hallway on Tuesday.
Sixth grade ends that overnight. Six or seven teachers. A different room every period. A building that pulls from several elementary schools, so half the families are people you've never met. And you're not in the building anymore — no drop-off conversation, no volunteering in the classroom, no natural way to meet anyone.
So the moment your student's social world gets bigger and harder to see, your own view of it gets smaller. A directory organized around classrooms can't help with that, because there isn't a classroom to organize around. Roost is built around what's actually there: the grade, the activity, the team, the family.
Clubs — where the structure moves to
Band, sports, drama, robotics, student council, grade-level committees. In middle school these stop being extras and start being the thing — it's how your student finds their people, and increasingly it's how you'll find the other parents.
Each group gets a real home inside the directory: its own members, its own leaders, its own updates. Anyone at LOMS can find a group and join it, which matters most for the families who don't already know someone on the inside.
The board is setting these up now. If a group you're part of isn't there yet, tell us and we'll add it.

Trusted Help — and at this age it runs both directions
Babysitters, tutors, coaches, and mentors, from inside your own school community.
Middle school sits in the middle of that, literally. Lake Oswego High School is on Roost, so a high school student who tutors algebra or coaches rec-league soccer can list themselves where LOMS families will see it. And your eighth grader who's started babysitting can extend their own listing to Forest Hills Elementary families, who are also on Roost — the families a few neighborhoods over who actually need a sitter.
Each listing arrives with a badge showing which school the family is from, so it's clearly a real family in your district and not a stranger from the internet. You choose which schools your listing reaches, each school chooses whether to accept, and only your own family's listings ever travel.
Roost doesn't vet listings. Every entry is either self-submitted or recommended by another parent. Treat each one like an introduction from a friend: meet, ask questions, trust your judgment.

Fill the roles without the cold ask
Middle school is where parent involvement usually falls off a cliff. Not because anyone stopped caring — because nobody's in the building anymore, and the ask arrives as a mass email to four hundred families hoping someone bites.
Tell Roost what you're interested in and roughly when you're free. As families opt in, each committee lead sees the parents most likely to say yes for their open roles, and can message them in a tap — without ever seeing anyone's contact information.
For events, jobs like concessions, setup, and the ticket table become time-slots parents claim themselves. Fewer mass emails begging for help, and fewer of the same five people saying yes to everything.

Messages that go to exactly the right people
The band chair reaches the band parents. The eighth-grade committee reaches the eighth-grade families. The whole school hears about the fundraiser. Nobody else gets the noise.
Everyone's BCC'd, so no addresses are exposed, and every message carries a one-click unsubscribe.
Worth being upfront about: the directory's visibility setting and broadcasts are separate switches. A family that hides itself from the directory still receives messages from the parent board — that's how schedule changes and deadline reminders stay reliable. Privacy controls who can find you; broadcasts reach every family the board is trying to reach. Each one has an unsubscribe if you want out of those too.
One account, every school, every year
If you have a student at another Lake Oswego school that's on Roost, it's the same login and the same family — no second account, no second password.
And accounts don't reset every fall. Your family stays put as your student moves from sixth to seventh to eighth — and then on to high school, where the account follows them instead of starting over. No re-registering every August.
Your information, your call
Your family is included in the directory by default. When you first sign in you'll accept the terms, and from there you control what's shared — email, phone, and address each have their own switch. You can be visible to everyone at LOMS, only to families in your student's grade, or not listed at all.
Privacy is enforced at the database, not just in the app. Roost doesn't sell data, doesn't run ads, and doesn't share your information outside your school community.
Questions
Is this replacing ParentSquare?
No. ParentSquare is still where the school and your student's teachers communicate with you — attendance, grades, announcements from the office. Roost is the parent-to-parent side: the directory, the clubs, volunteering, and community. The two work side by side.
What happens to our old directory?
The board has moved to Roost for this year. Setting up your Roost account is how you'll be in the directory going forward.
My student is coming up from an elementary school that uses Roost.
You'll have an email asking you to confirm the move. Click the link in it and your student appears at LOMS on the same account you already use — no second account, no second password, nothing to set up twice. If you can't find the email, request access at roost.directory/loms and an admin will sort it out.
I signed in and my student isn't listed.
Request access at roost.directory/loms and an admin will add your family — you only need to do it once, and your account carries forward from there. This comes up most often in sixth grade, which is the one year with no prior middle school records to carry over, but it can happen in any grade if you're new to LOMS or your contact information has changed.
Am I automatically listed?
Yes — your family is included by default, the same as in past years. You choose what's shared once you sign in, and you can hide individual fields or opt out of being listed entirely.
I have kids at more than one school.
One Roost account covers your whole family. Each Lake Oswego school that uses Roost shows up under the same login.
Do I have to use the app?
No. Roost works in any browser at app.roost.directory. The app is just faster.
I signed in and it didn't recognize my email.
Try the other email address your family uses with the school. If you're still stuck, email the parent board at sailorparentclub@gmail.com.
