The Hallinan directory, now online
Hallinan Elementary PTO has moved the family directory to Roost. It's private, built for families, and you can get in today.
You can start now, or wait until October
The school roster loads in October. Until then, Roost at Hallinan is mostly empty. You won't find your student already waiting when you sign in.
If you want in now
Create your account and add your student yourself — name and grade. All fifteen Hallinan teachers are already loaded, so you can pick your student's teacher from the list and put them straight into the right class.
If you'd rather wait
Do nothing. Your family gets added automatically when the official roster loads, with your student's teacher filled in for you.
Either way you end up in the same place. Anything you enter now is matched against the official roster when it arrives, so you won't end up listed twice. Enter your student's name the way the school has it and the two will line up.
Getting in
Create your account
Use your own email address. Roost works in any browser, or you can download the app for iPhone or Android.
Add your student and pick their teacher
First name, last name, and grade. Because Hallinan is just getting started, a PTO admin approves your first request and emails you the moment you're in. From there, all fifteen Hallinan teachers are in the list on your profile — pick yours and your student lands in the right class.
Choose what you share
Set your visibility in your profile: email, phone, and address each have their own switch. Change it any time.

Your student's class list
Look up the family behind the name your student keeps mentioning. Sort out a ride. Put together a birthday invite list without a chain of texts hunting for the right phone number.
This is the plain, boring thing a directory is for, and at elementary school it's most of what you'll use it for. Once the October roster lands, this fills in for every class at Hallinan.

Circles — your own private groups
The carpool. The room parents. The birthday invite list. The four families you actually plan weekends with.
You create the group, you choose who's in it, and nobody else at the school can see it or ask to join. A Circle isn't a school group with a sign-up sheet — it's your list, and it stays yours.

Trusted Help — sitters and tutors from our own district
Babysitters, tutors, coaches, and mentors from inside the school community — recommended by parents you know rather than found on the internet.
And it reaches beyond our building. Other Lake Oswego schools are on Roost too, and their older students — the ones who actually babysit and tutor around here — can extend their listings to Hallinan families. Each arrives with a badge showing which school the family is from, so it's clearly a real family in your district.
Roost doesn't vet listings. Every entry is either self-submitted or recommended by another parent. Treat each one like an introduction from a friend: meet, ask questions, trust your judgment.

PTO announcements, without the reply-all
PTO email goes out through the directory's own privacy rules. Recipients are never exposed to each other, there is no reply-all thread to escape, and you can unsubscribe in one click.
The PTO can write to everyone, to a single grade, or to one class, without ever building a mailing list by hand or pasting addresses into a spreadsheet.

Your information, your call
Roost is only visible to signed-in Hallinan families. It is not public, not searchable on the web, and never sold or shared with advertisers.
Your family is included in the directory by default, the same as in past years. You accept the terms the first time you sign in, and from there you control what other families see — email, phone, and address each have their own switch. You can be visible to everyone at Hallinan, only to families in your student's grade, or not listed at all.
Privacy is enforced at the database, not just in the app.
One account, every year
Nothing resets in August. Your account isn't rebuilt every year. It carries from kindergarten to first grade to fifth, with no re-registering and no re-entering the same phone number every fall. When your student moves up, their Roost account moves with them.
Questions
Why can't I find my student?
Because the school roster hasn't loaded yet. It arrives in October. That's expected, and it isn't something you did wrong. You can either add your student yourself now, or wait and be added automatically when the roster lands.
Will I end up in the directory twice?
No. What you enter now is matched against the official roster when it arrives. Enter your student's name the way the school has it — their full first name rather than a nickname — and the two line up into one record.
Where do I set my student's teacher?
On your profile, under Your children. All fifteen Hallinan teachers are already loaded, so pick yours from the list. You can leave it blank if you don't know it yet and come back to it.
Is this replacing ParentSquare?
No. ParentSquare is still where the school and your student's teacher communicate with you — attendance, announcements from the office. Roost is the parent-to-parent and PTO-to-parent side: the directory, the carpool group, the sitter list. The two work side by side.
Am I automatically listed?
Yes — your family is included by default, the same as in past years. You choose what's shared once you sign in, and you can hide individual fields or opt out of being listed entirely.
I have kids at more than one school.
One Roost account covers your whole family. Each Lake Oswego school that uses Roost shows up under the same login.
Do I have to use the app?
No. Roost works in any browser at app.roost.directory. The app is just faster.
I have a question that isn't here.
